Launching Feltie Addiction

I'd like to introduce you to my pet project, Feltie Addiction!  This year, I gave up my teaching job and while I was sad to leave the sweet school, it was definitely the right choice for the family.  I was able to spend many hours volunteering in Spork's first grade class, ran the PTO, made many phone calls to the transportation department about bus issues, was able to stay informed and advocate on school-related issues, shuttle the kids to therapy and specialists, make phone calls and fill out paperwork for their IEPs and ISPs, mentor other parents, etc.

However, I really missed working and earning money and felt a wee bit aimless.  My friend LL gifted me a little workbook with prompts and goal-setting pages, and I realized that I wanted to pursue art.  I've dabbled all my life, and it brings me so much joy.  I randomly settled on sensory bins, embroidery, and felt, reasoning that the materials were so inexpensive and I already owned a fair chunk of supplies needed, so it would not be a big investment if it flopped.  I dipped my toe in the water and made a few things and posted them on Facebook.  A month later, I realized I already had a modest profit and that this could really work!

So far the bulk of my sales have been locals, and I'm thankful that my Felties and edgy embroideries are addicting, so I get a lot of repeat customers.  I also take on custom work.  I've done 4 art shows, and have 3 more booked during the summer.  I've earned enough profit to send Tater to a private summer reading tutoring program.  I can take my materials almost anywhere and work during therapies

But mostly, I'm delighted that working with bright colors and creating things to cheer others is exactly what I need for my own mental health.  My winter blues were basically cured this year, and it was a nasty winter with Polar Vortex and so many snow days!  My art makes people laugh, and that makes me so happy.  Anyway, go check out my site!  Be warned, profanity abounds...but in a good way.
