Sponsored Book Review: Mama, Mama, Do You Know What I Like?

I was gifted this sweet storybook by the author, Justine Villanueva. I'm always looking for books featuring children of color as protagonists, and my favorite ones are those that aren't necessarily focused on overcoming racism (though those are certainly necessary and relevant), but just feature children having their own adventures.  I feel that is often more empowering to young readers of color and eye-opening to Caucasian readers too!  I'm honored to be taking part in Multicultural Children's Book Day this year (see more information below).

This book has the added bonus of including Bisaya and Filipino translations.  The charming Charlie, so wonderfully depicted by the illustrator, tells his mama about his most favorite things in the whole world.  Some of the pictures are realistic, while others give us a window into young Charlie's imagination.  The story is sequenced in the order of a child's routine.  It is notable that the mom in the story is Filipino and the dad is Caucasian.  My children really enjoy seeing a family "like ours" in which the parents are of different races.

I'd really encourage anyone seeking diversity on the bookshelf to grab a copy of this book.
